Looking for an Omega Watch like Christian Grey's?

In 50 Shades of Grey Ana takes notice of Christian's elegant Omega wristwatch. Although she does not give specifics on the model, she gives enough information for watch enthusiasts to speculate as to which model Omega watch the fictional character favors.

After scouring watch collectors message boards, the verdict seems to be the Omega Men's 3570.50.00 Speedmaster Professional Mechanical Chronograph Watch below. It has a sporty style with 3 subdials and a slim profile which works well under shirt cuffs and suit jackets.

I love the look of this watch, and my own husband who has been eying Omegas for years agreed that this might be the best looking, most versatile one for a man who has to get dressed for work but still wants a sporty but elegant watch. I'll put it on his wish list for the holidays this year, as long as he puts this one on his list for me. It's not the solid platinum watch that EL James describes in her book (and watch enthusiasts claim does not exist), but it will do! I think Omega watches may experience a lift this holiday season.

Bared to You by Sylvia Day: The Next 50 Shades?

I've got my next book queued up - Bared to You by Sylvia Day.

From what I hear, it is the next 50 Shades of Grey. The steamy story of two abuse survivors forging a romantic (and of course, sexual) relationship - this single volume story has potential to morph into a full blown series a la 50 Shade.

The fact that this book already has 988 customer reviews on Amazon.com and 4 out of 5 stars looks promising. I can't wait to get my copy. Get yours here, and let me know if you have read it and what you think.

My Prediction for Father's Day

This morning, Hoda and Kathy were talking about an increase in rope sales possibly tied to the popularity of the 50 Shades series. I have a prediction of my own for this Father's Day - sales of silver ties will be through the roof.

What is more classic than buying dad a tie for Father's day? A silver tie might raise a few eyebrows (do they or don't they?) and might signal to dad that mom is ready to bring him into the fold of true 50 Shades fans. Just saying...

What will dad say when he opens this gift on Father's Day?

But if you are going to go for the rope for Dad this year, PLEASE don't go to Home Depot! Here are some more appropriate options that will increase the fun factor and eliminate the rope burn!

Everyone Wants Ben Wa Balls

I have been looking at the stats for my blog and could not help but notice that just about every person who landed here from a search engine was looking for the same thing. Ben Wa balls - also known as Geisha balls.

In two of the most titillating scenes of the first book of the series, Anastasia and Christian play with these balls which have their origins in Asia and may be some of the oldest sex toys known to man.

In Anastasia's first encounter with Ben Wa balls, Christian inserts them during foreplay and spanks her while the balls are inside of her, creating extreme sensation in the still innocent Anastasia. In their next encounter with the Ben Wa balls, Christian asks Anastasia to wear them during a charity dinner given by his mother. This leads to a heightened state of arousal during the dinner scene which ends in a shattering climax in the restroom.

In the book, the Ben Wa balls are on of Anastasias favorite toys. And not surprisingly, sales of this sex toy have gone through the roof since the book's publication. When I went to order my own pair I found them almost sold out everywhere I looked online.

Here are a few pairs available now online. I just placed an order for a pair of my own!

Ok, so I know people are reading this and looking for these balls. So please, leave me a comment, or even better - a product review. I want to know what I am in for when mine arrive later this week!

SNL Skit - So True, So Funny

My Mother-in-law told me about this skit the other day, believe it or not. Since we missed Saturday Night Live I had to find it on YouTube. Hysterical. Take a look.

It really makes me think that the 50 Shades trilogy is probably THE best thing to happen to the Kindle. A mommy friend of mine who is a big fan of the books got a Kindle for Mother's Day. But she has already read the entire trilogy. So now what use should she put her new Kindle to?

I just had to put together a list for her of some books to read on her brand new Kindle that she would be equally enthralled with.

The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy
Written by Ann Rice as A.N. Roquelaure, this is an erotic retelling of the classic fairytale. Instead of living happily ever after, Sleeping Beauty finds herself in all kinds of erotic, BDSM situations... Highly acclaimed by those in-the-know, this is the next step for you if you are looking to dive into another trilogy.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty
Beauty's Punishment
Beauty's Release

The Story of O
First published anonymously in 1954(!) this classic tale of one young woman's descent into the dark world of BDSM is a must read.   Included on "Banned Book" lists around the world, I felt a need to read this when I was still in High School to find out just why it was banned. Oh my. Definitely a shocker, even for those who have read the 50 Shades series.

Liberating Lacey
By Anne Calhoun, a well known contemporary writer of erotic fiction, this is a great book for someone looking for a real-life story line along with their erotica - but not the commitment of a 3 book series.

Let me know your picks, and what everyone is reading now on their Mother's Day Kindles and Nooks!

Happy reading.

50 Shades of Grey - The Hype, The Reality

After hearing about this book for over a month, I finally got a hold of my friend's printed copy (which she happily paid $30 for after hearing about it from her friends) and settled in for some serious reading.

I was told that there were things in this book "I had probably never even heard of", so I was ready to be shocked, horrified...and gratified.

Things I had never even heard of?  Was that really possible? I knew there was a strong element of BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission- Thanks Wikipedia!) in the book, so I was prepared for something like "The Story of O". (Back in high school, I was on a mission to read every book ever banned and this was one of the most shocking). What I found was a romance with a dark side. Perhaps I was too focused on the erotic element and was expecting something a little more fast and furious. Instead I found a lot of story development, some silly (and somewhat annoying) narration by the protagonist (all of those "inner goddess" back flips) and some very satisfying erotic passages interspersed in this somewhat anachronistic story (a college student with no smart phone in 2011...who drinks tea? Really?).

I can't really complain. It was an enjoyable read. And I am willing to bet that all of those out there who are criticizing the book were avid readers of the entire series too.

It also made me interested in exploring some new toys. starting with those balls that Anastasia and Christian were playing with and that she wore through most of the charity dinner at Christian's parents help. They are called Ben Wa balls. Here's a cute pink set from Edenfantasy.com:

Welcome

The title of this blog comes from a funny family story. My mother-in-law is an avid reader, though not all of her reading selections are quite so literary. As a proper southern belle, and frequent traveler, she would never be caught dead with questionable book in her lap on a long flight. So she keeps these special books “protected” in a red dust jacket which she has had for years. One day, looking over at her on a long flight to visit the grandkids, my father-in-law exclaimed “When are you *ever* going to finish that book!”.

Whether you have been reading tawdry romance novels since you could snag them from your mother’s night table, or if you are new to the genre due to the widespread popularity of E.L. James’ 50 Shades of Grey  trilogy, you have come to the right place. Here we can chat about our favorite books, when and how we discovered them, and how they shaped our feelings and our sexuality, if we share the good parts with our partners...I could go on and on. And I will...

I am looking forward to this journey and hope you will all chime in so that I am not the lone voice here.
